8 Easy slow cooker recipes

Slow cookers are time saving kitchen appliances which are especially useful for busy ladies who cannot afford to waste a lot of time in the kitchen. With this magical tool, you can just put everything in the pot, close the lid, turn it on and forget about it! You can even leave the house while the slow cooker cooks the food for you and come back after a busy day to a delicious, hot meal! If you are already a fan of slow cooking or even if you are trying it for the first time, here are some easy slow cooker recipes for you:

Eye of Round Roast:

Eye of Round Roast

  1. Turn your slow cooker to low setting.
  2. Season your roast with salt, pepper and other seasonings.
  3. Layer the base of the cooker with one sliced onion. Place the roast over it.
  4. Add 1 cup water, 2 bay leaves and 2 tbsp soya sauce.
  5. Cover the lid and leave it to cook for 8 hours.
  6. Take the roast out.
  7. If you want to thicken the gravy that is now left in the slow cooker, make a mixture of 2 tbsp cornstarch and 2 tbsp water and add it to the cooker. Stir until the mixture boils and thickens.
  8. Serve the roast with the gravy.

Rump Roast:

Rump Roast

  1. Set the cooker to low setting and place the roast into it.
  2. Add in seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder, Italian dressing or anything else you like.
  3. Add 1 cup water.
  4. Close the lid and cook for 8 hours.
  5. Your slow cooked rump roast is ready to be served.

Sirloin Tip Roast:

Sirloin Tip Roast

  1. Cut some potatoes and carrots into pieces and chop one onion.
  2. Layer the base of the slow cooker with potatoes, then carrots and then onions.
  3. Place the roast over the vegetables and season with garlic powder and pepper.
  4. Turn the slow cooker on high setting and cook for 2 hours.
  5. Turn the setting to low and cook for a further 6 hours.
  6. Serve the roast with the vegetables.

Lamb Spare Ribs:

Lamb Spare Ribs

  1. Sprinkle salt over the ribs and mix well.
  2. Spread the ribs over a roasting pan and place the pan in a preheated broiler.
  3. Broil for 20 minutes or until they turn brown.
  4. Take the ribs out and put them in your slow cooker.
  5. Slice 1 onion and layer it over the ribs. Add 3 to 4 cups of barbeque sauce.
  6. Turn on the slow cooker and select the low setting.
  7. Cook for 6 to 7 hours and serve when meat turns soft.

Traditional Beef Stew:

Traditional Beef Stew

  1. Cut beef into pieces and coat it with ¼ cup flour, salt and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add the meat for browning.
  3. Transfer the meat t the slow cooker.
  4. Layer with cut pieces of potatoes and carrots, chopped onion and celery with garlic (1 minced clove) on top.
  5. Add 1 bay leaf, 1 tsp paprika and 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Add 1 ½ cup beef broth.
  7. Close the lid and cook the ingredients on low setting for 10 hours.

Meatball Beef Stew:

Meatball Beef Stew

  1. Mix 450 grams ground beef with salt and pepper.
  2. Make meatballs by hand and brown them in a pan.
  3. Layer 4 cubed potatoes, 4 cubed carrots, 1 chopped onion on the base of the slow cooker.
  4. Place the meatballs over them.
  5. Combine ½ cup ketchup, 1 ½ tsp vinegar, ½ tsp basil, ½ cup water, salt and pepper in a separate bowl and pour into the cooker.
  6. Cook on low for 7 hours.
  7. Serve in personal sized serving bowls.

Pork Roast:

Pork Roast

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add 1 minced onion, 6 minced garlic cloves, 1 tbsp minced thyme and 1 tbsp tomato paste. Cook till onion turn brown.
  2. Add ¼ cup flour and ½ cup wine while stirring.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a slow cooker.
  4. Add cubed tomatoes, carrots and parsnip to it.
  5. Sprinkle the roast with salt and pepper and add it to the cooker.
  6. Cover the lid and cook on low for 10 hours.
  7. Cut the roast into slices and serve with the sauce.

Barbeque Shredded Chicken:

Barbeque Shredded Chicken

  1. Add 1 chopped onion and 2 cloves garlic (minced) to your slow cooker.
  2. Add 2 tsp paprika, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 ½ cup barbeque sauce and a little Worcestershire sauce.
  3. Add 2 kg boneless chicken.
  4. Cook on low for 7 hours.
  5. Shred the chicken with a fork.
  6. You can use the chicken for salads, tacos, sandwiches and more.
