Top 7 Quick and Easy Pressure Cooker Recipes

If the word “Pressure Cooking” intimidates you because of the horror stories associated with it about food blowing up to the ceiling, know that all your worries are far from the reality of the modern pressure cookers of today. They have multiple safety mechanisms which makes it absolutely impossible for the lid to come off when pressure builds up inside the cooker. Even amateurs can cook in these pressure cookers without any fear. It is for this reason that I have collected a couple of super easy and super fast, mouth-watering recipes that even beginners can try!

Fried Chicken

Ingredients:

  1. Chicken pieces
  2. Salt and pepper
  3. Flour
  4. Vegetable oil for browning

Method:

  1. Combine flour, salt and pepper.
  2. Toss chicken in the flour mixture.
  3. In a frying pan, brown the chicken pieces using vegetable oil.
  4. Add water to your pressure cooker and add the chicken pieces to it.
  5. Seal the lid and turn it on.
  6. When the chicken is done, transfer it to a preheated baking pan lined with aluminum foil.
  7. Broil it until it becomes crispy.

Plain Rice

Plain Rice

Ingredients:

  1. Rice 1 cup
  2. Water 2 cups

Method:

  1. Soak the rice for a couple of minutes in water.
  2. Drain the water and rinse it thoroughly.
  3. Add rice and water to the pressure cooker.
  4. Seal the lid and place and turn on the flame.
  5. Turn the flame high to reach maximum pressure.
  6. When this pressure is attained, reduce the heat and cook for further 3 minutes.
  7. Turn the flame off and let the pressure subside before opening the cooker.
  8. Your rice is ready to be served.

Vegetable Biryani

Vegetable Biryani

 

Ingredients:

  1. Oil 2 tbsp
  2. Whole spices 1 tbsp
  3. Onion 1 (sliced)
  4. Ginger and garlic (chopped)
  5. Fresh vegetables (potatoes, carrots, green peas, green chillies) approx 2 cup
  6. Mint leaves and coriander leaves 1 cup (chopped)
  7. Biryani masala powder 2 tsp
  8. Water 2 ½ cups
  9. Salt (as per taste)
  10. Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  11. Basmati rice 1 ½ cups

Method:

  1. Soak the rice n water for a minute or two. Drain the water and rinse the rice.
  2. Add oil to the cooker and heat it. Add whole spices and cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Add onion and cook till it turns brown. Add garlic and ginger and cook for further 2 minutes. Add vegetables and cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Add biryani masala and cook for 2 minutes. Now add mint leaves, water, lemon juice and salt. When water begins to boil, add rice.
  5. Seal the lid and cook on high fame till maximum pressure has reached.
  6. When pressure is attained, lower the flame and cook for 3 minutes.
  7. Turn the flame of and open the cooker once pressure has subsided.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves to serve.

Pork Chops with carrots and potatoes

Pork Chops with carrots and potatoes

Ingredients:

  1. Pork chops 4
  2. Onion 1 (chopped)
  3. Worcestershire sauce 3 tbsp
  4. Vegetable broth 1 cup
  5. Potatoes 4
  6. Baby carrots 1 cup

Method:

  1. Brown pork chops in cooker without the lid.
  2. Add salt, pepper, chopped onions, Worcestershire sauce and broth to the cooker.
  3. Place the steamer basket over the mixture and add carrots and potatoes to it.
  4. Seal the lid and turn the flame high to bring to pressure.
  5. Cook for 13 minutes after the pressure is attained.
  6. Release the pressure safely.

Chocolate cake

Ingredients:

  1. Flour ½ cup
  2. Sugar ½ cup
  3. Cocoa powder 4 tsp
  4. Baking powder ½ tsp
  5. Oil ½ cup
  6. Eggs 2
  7. Vanilla essence 1 tsp

Method:

  1. Beat eggs in a bowl.
  2. Add vanilla essence, oil, flour, baking powder, sugar and cocoa powder and mix well.
  3. Grease a tin container, grease with oil and sprinkle with flour.
  4. Pour the batter into the container.
  5. Place container in preheated pressure cooker and cook on low heat for about half an hour.
  6. Check if the cake is done. If not, leave if for another 10 minutes.
  7. When the cake is done, remove from tin container and serve.

Adzuki Beans

Ingredients:

  1. Adzuki beans 2 cups
  2. Water 2 cups

Method:

  1. Soak the beans in water overnight at room temperature.
  2. Drain the water and rinse the beans.
  3. Add beans and water to the pressure cooker and seal the lid.
  4. Cook on high pressure for about 10 minutes or until they become soft.
  5. Beans are ready to be served.

Chicken and Rice

Chicken and Rice recipe

Ingredients:

  1. Chicken breasts with bones
  2. Salt and pepper
  3. Rice
  4. Carrots
  5. Onions
  6. water
  7. Oil

Method:

  1. Brown chicken breasts in pressure cooker without the lid.
  2. Add salt and pepper.
  3. Take out the chicken and add carrots and onion to the remaining oil. Cook until done without the lid.
  4. Take the vegetable out. Add rice and water to the cooker.
  5. Place the chicken and vegetables over the rice and seal the lid.
  6. Pressure cook for 15 minutes.
  7. Your dish is ready to be served.
